Joanna Owen

Do you like writing captions and emails? Or maybe posting on social media? Well, I do!

Hi! My name is Joanna Owen and I am a 4th year Communications student with a specialization in strategic communication and digital design and I am running to be your VP of Information Anglo! Given the opportunity, I would love to be your source of information for all things CSA for the 2022-2023 school year.

I have 3 main things I want to focus on this year.

I want to ensure you as students are informed about all events, important dates, and exciting communications news throughout the year. Making sure you all know all the information about the CSA and the happenings during the school year. My job as VP Information is to make sure you are informed, and I will do my best to make that happen!

Second, I want to focus on cohesiveness. I am an organized person and I love when things are seamless. I want to ensure that there is continuity in the information you are receiving. All platforms should be clear and have the same information on all fronts. As VP of information, it would be my job to make sure that you are receiving all the information you need to succeed as a communications student no matter where you look, whether it be Instagram or the CSA website.

If elected, I promise to be clear in all communications on social media. I love making cool captions and interesting posts for you to see and along with that is clarity. Having all the information that is delivered to you be clear and fun at the same time is something I would value as VP of Information.

Matthieu Roukoz

Hi everyone, my name’s Matt I'm a fourth-year communication student with a minor in management running to be your VP of University Affairs Franco! Who said academia and fun can’t go together?

For me, university’s all about student-experience. I’ve been fortunate enough to be super involved throughout the last few years as Vice President of Internal Affairs on two different clubs, the Head of Marketing for a third and now the President of CASCO, a student-run non-profit for CHEO here on campus.

Maintaining good relationships with sponsors, stakeholders as well as members of the faculty has been a key component in many of my roles and I hope to do the same for the CSA.

I’ll ensure to communicate effectively and clearly with you, represent you well on the various administrative and academic committees, and ensure that fun and academia mesh well!

I’m looking forward to engaging with communication students of all years and to proudly represent you at the various faculty and department meetings.

As a fourth-year student, I’ve learned a lot of tips and tricks for studying along the way. This is why I’d like to introduce a “Studying 101” guide where upper-year students can contribute their learnings to those who are pursuing their undergraduate degree.

Also, with my experience, both professional and extracurricular, I’ve managed to expand my network with various communication and industry representatives. This will benefit the CSA’s annual wine and cheese as I’m confident that I can bring a diverse and well-experienced panel of speakers.

I hope to get the opportunity to work with you all! Thank you and make sure to vote YES for Matthieu Roukoz on September 26 and 27!

Emma Smith

Hey Commies! I’m Emma Smith and I am a fourth year Honours Communication and Political Science student running to be your VP University Affairs Anglo. I would love to represent all of you for the 2022-2023 school year and be your eyes and ears for academic concerns and also plan some fun networking events.

My platform is broken down into 3 pillars: C-S-A (see what I did there)

I promise to Cooperate both with our department administrative staff and academic staff but also with you, my peers. My position as VP University Affairs is to give us eyes, ears, and a voice within our university community. My past experiences as a frosh guide, planning events throughout high school such as prom, athletic banquet, and directing my school’s annual play have allowed me to build the necessary skills to cooperate with others.

I aim to Serve. Being an executive on the CSA means I am here to help my fellow students. I will be forthcoming, approachable, accessible, and a listening ear. If you have any academic concerns or just need a friend because school is hard, my door is open. Don’t worry, I have plenty experience with serving: I am a public servant, used to be a restaurant server but, most importantly, I serve on Instagram.

I Acknowledge that we are all unique individuals with different stories, different wants and needs, and will ensure that at the forefront of everything I do is everyone of you. Regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and more, every student deserves to be acknowledged and have their opinions hold weight to the people that represent them.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions and vote Emma Smith for VP University Affairs Anglo!

Rachel Hayden-Gardner

Hey commies! My name is Rachel Hayden-Gardner (she/her), I am a fourth-year communications student, and I am so excited to be running for Vice-President of Senior Affairs for the 2022-2023 school year.

Covid has taken away a lot of my university experience and this year when I signed up to be a 101-week guide, I didn’t know how much of an impact it would have in such a short period of time. Within one week I had made so many good friends in the communications department and I truly felt like I belonged.  As VP of Senior Affairs, I understand how much we have missed out on, and I want to have this last year make up for all we feel we have missed over the past two years.

Not only do I believe the social aspect of our graduating year to be important, but the academic side as well. I plan on being an advocate for both graduating students and future graduates.

If elected I will work hard to communicate and connect with graduating students to ease their university exit stress all the while making our last year the best year!

If elected I will engage with graduating students to see what kind of activities and events we feel as though we have missed out on due to covid and work hard to organize as many as possible throughout the year.

If you have any questions regarding my campaign or platform, please do not hesitate to contact me by email at rhayd042@uottawa.ca.

Thank you for your consideration and don’t forget to vote Rachel Hayden-Gardner for VP Senior Affairs on September 26-27!
